I was honored when my friend Carol Johson asked me to create a video that she could play for the Brokers at her upcoming annual Recruiting Network Conference in Scottsdale AZ on April 22nd-24th. I thought I would share it with you. This could easily apply to agents as well.
So, what is this thing called Twitter and how can I use it as a Realtor? This is probably a question you’ve asked yourself recently. It seems Twitter has become a major phenomenon. I would definitely not classify it as a fad anymore. Now as you know, I have always been an early adopter of Technology, however I will admit that I have stood back and not jumped in the the Twitter scene. I was a little reluctant as I couldn’t see the benefit for Realtors until now. I now have enough knowledge and research to say that Twitter is here to stay. Here are just a few stats that make me believe it:
An estimated 5-10 thousand new accounts are opened per day
Twitter traffic has grown over 600% in the past 12 months (Compete.com)
Twitter.com has become one of the top 1,000 websites by traffic in May 2008 (Alexa.com)
So, what is Twitter? Twitter is a great way to drive traffic to your website and/or blog. It is a social networking and micro-blogging service that enables you to send and read other users’ updates known as tweets.
I have found an incredible resource for explaining Twitter and how Realtors can use it in their business. I follow many Real Estate Technology Blogs and one in particular that I really like is MyTechOpinion.com. The author is Nicole Nicolay (aka NikNik). She has written an eBook titled, “Twitter for Real Estate Twits.” This book is written in plain english, a quick read and very detailed.
Are you overwhelmed with all the Social Networking sites. Hopefully you realize the importance of using them. If not, be sure to read my blog post, “Tame the Social Media Beast.” I agree with you there are too many sites to join and keep up with them all. There are several more popular sites that I would recommend (Facebook, Linkedin). Social Networking sites are great for connecting with colleagues, service providers and don’t forget the importance of past clients. They are also very good for keeping your network aware of new listings, posts to your blog, and updates of your success. Here is a great video explaining Social Networking in Plain English.

Are you in complete overwhelm with all the different sites that people tell you to join? On this post I’m going to focus on Social Networking sites and how to use them, but first you need to know what Social Media means. Social Media is a category of sites that is based on user participation and user-generated content. Social media includes Social Networking sites which according to Wikipedia are online communities of people who share interests and activities, or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others. I’ve also heard it explained as the practice of expanding the number of one’s business and/or social contacts by making connections through individuals.

As a Realtor you’re always on the go. Whether you’re running to a showing, listing appointment, inspection, etc. Have you ever been in the car and needed to take a note, write down a reminder, schedule an appointment, or end someone an email or text? The problem is in some states it’s illegal to text and drive or even use your phone. More importantly is the danger of trying to write something down or use the tiny little keyboard on your phone to send and email or text message.
